About ReportHost Pro

ReportHost Pro is a program that you can download and install for free from our website. It lets you record your findings during inspections using a tablet PC or laptop with no internet connection. After your inspection, you upload your report to our website and publish it. Publishing reports can take very little time this way and is much faster than using our printed field notes. For example, the reports at these links took only took 10 minutes and 20 minutes to publish. If you're using our printed field notes, ReportHost Pro may also decrease the time you spend at an inspection because its "tabbed" interface lets you switch between report sections instantly rather than flipping through pages of field notes.

With ReportHost Pro, you download your report templates to your tablet PC or laptop to make an electronic version of your field notes. If you've used ReportHost's printed field notes, you'll be right at home using ReportHost Pro because the electronic field notes look just like the printed field notes. But instead of circling items or hand writing notes on printed field notes, you'll simply select items and enter text.

You can save as many reports as you wish on your tablet PC or laptop before uploading them. If you have an internet connection at the inspection, you can also publish the report on-site.

What is a Tablet PC?

A tablet PC is a lightweight laptop that has handwriting recognition software built in so you can "pen" your input into it using a stylus rather than a keyboard and mouse. The average tablet PC weighs around three or four pounds. Handwriting recognition software is excellent these days, with no "training" period required for it to become usable. You'll be suprised how well it works right out of the box.

There are two basic kinds. "Convertibles" have a full keyboard, and a screen that can swivel and fold flat. "Slates" have no keyboard, requiring you to use the stylus for all data entry. Prices for new, entry level models start around $800 while full featured ones range around $2,000. Of course used or refurbished ones can be found much cheaper through websites like Ebay (www.ebay.com) or Craig's List (www.craigslist.org). Weatherproof sleeves are often available that serve the home inspection industry well.

What are the requirements for ReportHost Pro?

Windows XP or Windows Vista
Microsoft's .Net 2.0 Framework. You may already have this installed on your computer. If not, then it's free to download from Microsoft's website. Our download page detects if you have it installed or not and displays a link to Microsoft's site if you don't.

Will ReportHost Pro work on computers other than a tablet PC?

Yes! You can use ReportHost Pro with any computer running Windows XP or Windows Vista. Some inspectors use a laptop in the field rather than a tablet PC, and keep it at a central location such as the kitchen during the inspection, and return to it periodically to enter their findings. You may also want to try out ReportHost Pro on your desktop computer.
